Hello, hi, welcome! I assume you’re here because you have an interest in the world of beauty like myself. Well, at least I hope so or you’re in the wrong place. I guess we should start with a little introduction as you’re probably wondering what exactly The Beauty Room is.
This whole Substack thing may be new to me but writing about beauty, reviewing products and creating content is not. I’m Ellise, a Yorkshire born Makeup Artist and Beauty Creator and I’ve spent the past 5+ years carving out a career for myself around my love of makeup and beauty. I also graduated University in Fashion Art Direction, so you could say I love reading a good magazine and appreciate great editorial visuals.
You can find me across most socials, primarily on Instagram where I post curated makeup looks on the grid and daily quick daily life/bts snaps on stories, TikTok where I show up slightly less ‘polished’ and chattier, and now here where… we’ll get into that.
I’ve been presented with some incredible opportunities over the past few years - working alongside some of the most well known and luxury brands in beauty on campaigns and in person events, travelling and attending events and trips and found myself in rooms with people I grew up admiring from afar.
I haven’t been able to do that alone, I’m lucky enough to have a great team and support system around me. It is of course thanks to the shared interest of the beauty community and support I’ve been shown that I have been able to live out my dreams - for that I am immensely grateful every day. My favourite part about it all is meeting and connecting with you and I want to bring you along with everything, however that evolves.
So what is The Beauty Room?
I started a Blog on my website and Newsletter in 2023 - where I’ve since been sharing my curated monthly Best In Beauty product round ups, reviews and pro tips and tricks. After finding my thumbs opening the Substack app on my phone more and more recently (though desktop is my preferred viewing experience), I quickly discovered the lack of beauty focussed posts here.
With social media captions becoming increasingly smaller, I figured I can’t be the only one searching for a written outlet to read/write more in depth about a particular subject I love? Enters Substack. I love the concept of the platform - how it combines the social and community side I sometimes feel is lacking from social media, whilst providing thoughtfully produced content that has substance.
If we meet in person I will likely talk your ear off about anything and everything, though speaking to the camera isn’t something that comes natural to me. There’s often times where I want to speak about a product/topic but don’t quite know how. Writing allows me to somewhat make sense of what is in my overactive brain. That being said we’re pivoting over here in *attempt* to fill that void and hope to reach anyone else looking for the same. If you were a Blog reader, you can still access the archives here so not all is lost!
The name itself isn’t the most creative, the same could be said about my dog’s name Blu which was influenced by his blue collar his breeder used to tell the pups apart. Oh and yes, big dog lover here - but let’s stay on track.
Since I recently completed the renovation of my home beauty room, where I primarily work from and friends and family gather to raid the product stash - nobody leaves empty handed! Naturally, I thought why not create an online Beauty Room that we can all share together? After all, it wouldn’t have been possible to create it without you. I’ll be delving deeper into The Beauty Room itself in the next post where I share the details, thought process and decision making behind bringing it to life!
Why subscribe?
I’m well aware of our already cluttered feeds fighting for our attention and I’m not into posting for postings sake. I hope for this to be a place you grab a cuppa and read whilst having a quiet minute to yourself on the sofa, or perhaps a candle lit bath. Hope that doesn’t sound weird - I’m writing this whilst thinking about running one myself! However you choose to read, I promise to deliver light-hearted, intentional and curated beauty focussed content that is worth your time. No waffle or unnecessarily long posts, just enough for you to find value or inspiration delivered right to your inbox or available to read anytime on the site.
